WARNING PREACHY
Matthew chapter 5 is about Jesus doing some major correcting to
the broken Jewish system, with Jesus telling the
people what they already thought they knew and then informing them about how it really was.
His words were comforting to the people the religious system had victimized and called unclean.
Jesus led his band of misfits and derelicts (his disciples)
for three years until one night He was charged with blasphemy, arrested, and sentenced
to death upon a Roman Cross. They drove spikes into his hands and feet and watched him bleed and suffocate to
death; and he willingly died this way so
that you and I did not need to.
On that cross, Jesus paid
the price that God demands of our sins, and on the third day he rose
again proving himself victorious. He offers you this grace of forgiveness.
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
Are you downtrodden, poor
and needy today? I invite you to follow Jesus to the
Cross because it is there where genuine love is found.
I do pray that I'll see you there.
